Fans think they know why Nacho Monreal left the pitch in Napoli vs Arsenal

Arsenal made light work of their Europa League quarter-final clash with Napoli.

After a 2-0 win in the first leg at the Emirates, the Gunners were expecting a backlash as they headed to Italy.

But they were rarely troubled by the home side as Alexandre Lacazette's free-kick sealed a 3-0 aggregate triumph to secure a semi-final spot.

Things were so straightforward for Unai Emery's side that they even went down to 10 men for a brief spell in the second half.

Defender Nacho Monreal hurriedly left the field around the hour mark and headed into the dressing room before returning a few moments later.

It was unclear where the Spaniard went - but fans came up with a theory as they reckoned he departed to use the dressing room toilet facilities!

Arsenal's all-red kit vs Napoli leaves fans pondering the same question

One fan said: "Monreal 100% nipped off for a poo, didn't he?" whilst another added "Monreal found time mid game to take a five minute dump in Naples. The disrespect."

"So easy this that Monreal's gone for a quick poo. Love that", another supporter declared with another joking that they hoped he "washed his hands".

Unai Emery told to copy Liverpool tactic for the rest of the season

Despite earning a semi-final spot, Gunners fans are not exactly overjoyed to be spending the season in the Europa League after missing out on Champions League football.

One fan said that "Monreal should have just done it in the centre circle" as it "would have been fitting for this competition".

Unai Emery's side will now nonetheless have high hopes of going all the way in the competition, particularly given it could provide them with a back door route back into the Champions League with the race for a Premier League top four finish still fierce.
