Fans think Ariana Grande has come out as bisexual - weeks after backlash for headlining Manchester Pride as straight artist

Ariana Grande released a new single last night, and the lyrics have fans convinced that the singer has come out as bisexual.

Monopoly, which was released on April 1, is a duet with Victoria Monét and had fans obsessing over the lyric: "I like women and men (yeah)."

Victoria Monét, who came out as bisexual last November, appeared to confirm the rumour, responding to a user on Instagram: "she said what she said".

Within minutes of the song dropping, Twitter was awash with posts questioning the 25-year-old singer's sexual orientation.

One user wrote: "best plot twist of 2019 is ariana becoming a bisexual icon" and another asked: "did ariana just use monopoly to come out as bisexual? oh my god"

One fan said: "if ariana is bisexual and this is her way of coming out. then i’m so proud of her. if it isn’t then thank you for the bisexual anthem ma’am !"

Another wrote: "ARIANA IS BISEXUAL OMFG MY LEGS ARE SHAKING"

Ariana has replied to one post on Twitter that said: "ariana ain't gotta label herself, but she said what she said."

The 25-year-old singer responded: "i haven’t before and still don’t feel the need to now, which is okay" complete with a black heart and fairy emoji.

Grande received backlash earlier this year when she was confirmed as the headliner of Manchester Pride, which is this year taking place at Mayfield Depot.

Critics questioned whether a (presumably) straight act should be allowed to headline the annual LGBT+ celebration, especially when the announcement came with trebled ticket prices.

Organisers were accused of "exploitation of the LGBT community", but both Ariana Grande and co-headliner Olly Alexander (of Years & Years) defended the decision.

Grande wrote on Twitter: "The LGBTQ community has been so special to me and supportive throughout my entire career. The relationships i have with my LGBTQ fans, friends, and family make me so so happy.

"I want to celebrate and support this community, regardless of my identity or how people label me. and also i wanna visit a city that means so much to me. LGBTQ representation is incredibly important, and I'm always proud to share the stage with LGBTQ artists!"

Whether it's true or not, fan reaction suggests that visible bisexual role models are desperately wanted.
