Fans slate PFA Scotland Team of the Year as Celtic and Rangers players dominate

Gary Caldwell may have started a trend when he asked his Partick Thistle players to select their own side to take on Queen of the South in Saturday's crunch clash at the bottom of the Championship.

It worked out well for the Jags as they secured their status in the division with a 3-0 win at Palmerston.

Now Scotland's footballers have all had a shot at picking their team - that being the best Scottish Premiership XI over the entire campaign. Collectively they have selected their 11 top men of the season.

And, predictably, it's been slated by supporters.

James Forrest named PFA Scotland Player of the Year as Celtic star rewarded for stunning season

Champions Celtic have five players in the side which also has four from Rangers and one each from Aberdeen and Livingston.

The omission of any Kilmarnock players was a particular sore point for some while the goalkeeping and central defensive selections also left many scratching their head.

For the record the team is: Allan McGregor (Rangers); James Tavernier (Rangers), Dedryck Boyata (Celtic), Kris Ajer (Celtic), Craig Halkett (Livingston); Graeme Shinnie (Aberdeen), Scott Brown (Celtic), Callum McGregor (Celtic); James Forrest (Celtic), Ryan Kent (Rangers), Alfredo Morelos (Rangers).

But some fans are not impressed.

Former Cowdenbeath star Dean Brett - admittedly a Hibs fan - couldn't believe Rangers keeper McGregor had made it into the side, preferring Hibs No.1 Ofir Marciano. He tweeted: "Marciano > Mcgregor. Joke."

And @gregor0488 replied: "May I ask how Alan McGregor is there even tho Bain has more clean clean sheets, less goals conceded, basically less everything, he's just better."

@THE_Presters said: "No Killie players yet Clarke gets manager of the year. Makes sense. How’s Boyata in there?"

While @CopeyDaniels said: "Boyata is a strange one. The rest fair enough. Turnbull maybe unlucky."

And @Green_Hoops67 had a point when he wrote: "Hawd oan.. Ajer gets in the team of the year but not in the young player of the year... Are we sure this is done by votes?"

@GeorgeK50324073 said: "I take it Tavernier is in the team, in case it goes to penalties? Only reason I can think of."

And @CraigHunter1872 added: "Hahahaha Boyata and Brown am a missing something here??

While @dockers_hoops quipped: "Moreloff and McGregor in for their discipline and professionalism?"

@docmccarron added: " Only 7 on the field at 90mins! McGregor, Morelos, Kent and Shinnie red carded! Will need the Celtic Bhoys to save the day."

@SheltieDon had the final say: "That team supposedly voted for by the players just epitomises the fact that Scottish club football is broken."

A bit harsh perhaps.
