Fans Slam Keith Urban For Nicole Kidman Song Pre-Divorce Lyric Change: ‘Ultimate Ick’

It appears Keith Urban might’ve soft-launched his shock split with Nicole Kidman days before it made the news, with fans pointing out a sneaky lyric change in one of his pre-divorce performances.

The world is currently wailing over the sudden split of Urban and Kidman, with the Practical Magic star officially filing for divorce after 19 years of marriage.

But as the rumour mill continues to run rampant with tea surrounding the reason behind the split and an alleged “cocaine clause” in the pair’s pre-nup, fans noticed that the country singer might’ve hinted at the breakup days before it made headlines.

In a September 26 post from guitarist Maggie Baugh, Urban slightly tweaked the lyrics to “The Fighter”, a song about the early days of his relationship with Kidman, while performing alongside him.

Instead of belting out: “When they’re tryna get to you / baby I’ll be the fighter”, The Voice coach sang, “When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie I’ll be your guitar player”.

“Did he just say that?” Baugh wrote alongside the video.

Now, with the split confirmed, fans took to the comments section of the Instagram post, calling out the country singer for the change, with one person even labelling it “the ultimate ick”.

“It is so trashy to do this to a song inspired by his wife. It’s the ultimate ick,” one viewer penned.

“Wow, that song was made for Nicole. For him to do that tells us what he’s really all about. That’s just disgusting. Nicole deserves much better. This is the second time he’s cheated on her, maybe third,” another fan alleged.

“I am no longer a Keith Urban fan. Everything and what he stood for is a lie. He should be ashamed of himself. Poor daughters,” wrote a third.

Why did Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban split?

While the pair have yet to comment publicly on the massive news, inside sources have claimed the pair had broken up over their clashing work schedules.

“Keith never sees Nicole, either she is filming or he is on tour,” a source claimed to Daily Mail.

“There was a lot of love between the two, and they might not divorce. They [have] been together for decades, so there is a world in which they can reconcile, but the way their pairing is now, they are not a couple.”

The source went on to claim that Urban was the one who initiated the split, where he “[called] her out” over his “unhappiness” in their marriage, which reportedly “blindsided” the actor.

“The intimacy isn’t there, they are just going through the motions [of being married]. If this separation gets them back together, that would be amazing, but Keith had to call her out that he isn’t happy,” the source continued.

“She was blindsided, but we shall see how things go during the holiday season and his upcoming birthday [next month]. They have some work to do.”

Again, neither party has publicly commented on their relationship’s demise. However, it’s been rumoured that Urban has already moved on with a “younger woman in the business”.
