Fans share concern over Daryl Janmaat Liverpool transfer links after Joe Gomez injury

Liverpool fans are in two minds over the prospect of signing Daryl Janmaat.

The Dutch defender has been linked with a move to Anfield on a free transfer as the Reds try to overcome a defensive injury crisis.

Joe Gomez's knee injury suffered on international duty looks set to keep him out of action at least a large chunk of the season and sees him joining Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho in the treatment room.

It has seen the Reds become linked with Janmaat - but his previous record at Watford and Newcastle United have left some fans questioning whether he would add much. to Jurgen Klopp's squad

Janmaat is available on a free transfer after leaving Watford in the summer.

He is fully-fit after overcoming a knee injury and, according to Teamtalk, is keen on a move to Anfield, even on a short-term deal.

Naturally a right-back, Janmaat would potentially add depth at the back, particularly with full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold currently sidelined with a calf injury.

The 31-year-old has won praise from Gini Wijnaldum, who has played with him for both the Netherlands and Newcastle United.

Wijnaldum is said to have given Janmaat a glowing reference over a potential move to Anfield.

The move would only be a stop-gap for the Reds but would add experience to a backline that is lacking in numbers.

Both Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips look set for increased game-time following Van Dijk and Gomez's injuries, but neither carries much first-team experience.

By contrast, Janmaat carries experience of a 13-year senior playing career that has had spells at Feyenood, Newcastle and Watford.

It is not the first time the 34-time capped Dutch defender has been linked with Anfield, with Brendan Rodgers having been keen on signing him for the Reds in 2015.
