Fans returning as Celtic make transfers just proves they control Scottish football - Hotline

Clubs have been given the green light to throw open their doors again ahead of the Premiership’s return next week – but not everyone is chuffed with the decision.

The move to bring forward the winter break looks to have paid off with the government go ahead, yet some Rangers fans are still not happy.

George Wilson, West Sussex, said: “How ludicrous but predictable to reintroduce full crowds to SPFL when Covid cases will soon be worse just when Celtic play their first home game.

“Evidence once again of Celtic controlling Scottish football.

“When Celtic get all their players fit and the new signings bedded in and a full house at home what excuse will they come up with then to avoid playing Rangers?”

Scott Cassidy, Bridgeton, said: “As a die-hard Gers fan I still think it’s wrong that we are rushing the fans back and asking for 50 percent to be checked. It would be best to do it gradually.

"Say first week back we keep the 500 rule and up it the following week to 2000 so mid February we get full houses back and the clubs have a better system of the scanning of vaccination codes.”

Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, said: “Unfortunately the Omicron variant brought about a vote to bring the winter break forward, the vote was taken yet some teams had to play home matches in front of only 500 fans. There has been a clear breach of sporting integrity as no clubs should have gained a financial advantage or loss, the vote was taken on safety grounds and the league should have been suspended immediately after the vote.

“I can't believe there is a change of heart when our hospitals are filling up rapidly, more cases and deaths are being recorded, another new variant having just emerged with no-one knowing it's impact.”

But Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: “Well done to Celtic and the other nine clubs who showed foresight and professionalism by bringing the break forward and saved clubs a lot of cash.

“It’s just a pity that one club continues to try to use these situations to rock the boat and acts with anything but professionalism, luckily now all the other clubs can see through them.”

Ciaron Mallon, Belfast, said: “Looks like Celtic and the other nine clubs who voted to bring the winter break forward rather than play in front of empty stadiums have been fully vindicated.

"I guess the well oiled machine at Ibrox will just have to charge to the title without that particular advantage to help them along the way. That is once they wipe the egg from their faces of course.”

Celtic have been busy in the transfer market and Martin McGarrigle emailed: “I see a lot of the One in a Row Corona champions fans are bumping their gums that we’re in a ‘panic’ with Celtic’s recent signings.

“I smell fear. They know the predictions it would take Celtic seasons to catch up are now looking like nonsense and the title is coming back to where it belongs – in the East End of Glasgow!”

David Bryce, Troon, said: “I am looking forward to seeing Daizen Maeda in a Celtic jersey. I have a feeling he may be sensational! I think Hatate and Guchi will be squad players, though.”

Joe Smith, Coleraine, said: “Tell me which players apart from Kyogo and Hart are upgrades on the players that left in the summer?

“Postecoglou needs a squad of 50 plus the way he trains and plays and the injuries are because of his outdated training methods.”

Meanwhile, Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus, said: “Rangers are okay for players until the summer. Why would they want to change a winning team? Their only problem will be if Goldson leaves.”
