Fans react to Cristiano Ronaldo's stunning second debut as returning Man Utd star bags a brace

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice for Manchester United on his second debut for the club against Newcastle United.

The four-time Ballon D’or winner bagged 45 minutes into his triumphant return, proudly donning the famous number seven shirt once again.

The goal sparked wild celebrations from the Old Trafford faithful.

After working tirelessly to break the visitors down, Man Utd finally found a breakthrough in the form of the man of the hour on the stroke of half time.

The goal stemmed from Mason Greenwood, who unleashed an effort that took a slight deflection on the way through - wrongfooting Magpies shot-stopper Freddie Woodman.

And after Newcastle netted a surprise equaliser through Javier Manquillo, United responded as Ronaldo again produced the goods to score his second goal on his return to the Red Devils.

United ran out 4-1 winners in the end, with Bruno fernandes and Jesse Lingard helping themselves to goals later on.

And football fans took to Twitter to react to Ronaldo's brilliant showing.

One fan posted a picture of Ronaldo saluting to the stand alongside an image of a jubilant Sir Alex Ferguson, saying 'Cristiano Ronaldo always makes Sir Alex Ferguson proud.'

Another took to the site to pay tribute to Ronaldo, referring to the former Real Madrid and Juventus winger as 'the greatest there is'.

The post read: "36 years of age.

"Back to the Premier League after 12 years. Goes on to score a brace like nothing's changed.

"Cristiano Ronaldo. The greatest there is. The greatest there was. The greatest there ever will be."

And many were taken by the wonderful image of Ronaldo's proud mother watching on from the stands as her son started his second Manchester United stint with a bang.

One fan posted the picture alongside the caption:

"Cristiano Ronaldo's mum after her son scored.

"Brilliant photo."
