Fans react to Brendan Rodgers' 9-0 win and ask 'Whose league is tinpot now?'

“This was the sort of beating Brendan Rodgers was used to dishing out in Scotland.”

The words of the Sky commentator as Leicester City's 9-0 victory over Southampton came to it's record-breaking conclusion.

Yet, of course, Rodgers didn't come close to winning a single game by such a margin during his time as Celtic .

In fact, there has only ever been one away win in the Scottish top league that's in the same ball park- and you have to go all the way back to 1959 when Airdrie were demolished 11-1 by Hibs.

When Celtic defeated St Johnstone 7-0 on the first game of the season, our friends over the border were out in force to stick the boot into our league, with a case in point below.

So, as you can imagine there's been an interesting reaction to tonights result on Scottish fitba Twitter...

@craig_killie: Brendan Rodgers' record win in the tinpot Scottish league was 6-0. Starting to wonder how many goals Dave from Barnsley's nan could score down there.

@Matt24Greer: Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic never scored 7 goals in a league match. Who’s league’s tinpot now?

@nareystoepoker: What a tinpot league. Brendan Rodgers wasn't winning away games 7-0 after an hour when he was managing in Scotland

Fans being fans, not everybody was happy to join the fun. The last Brendan Rodgers fan amongst the Celtic support speaks.

@Cr02887062: Instead of being bitter, Celtic fans should be asking why we never allowed Brendan Rodgers to build a team here. Yet, here we are, celebrating a scraped win in the Europa League and hailing a Hibs reject
