Fans react as Premier League returns with controversial goal line technology moment

Fans were delighted to see the return of English football tonight as the Premier League served up a double-header - and there was no shortage of drama.

Up first, Aston Villa hosted Sheffield United as fans came to grips with the reality of empty stands and digital crowd noise to fill the void.

Both sets of players and the referee then took a knee in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement just before kick off.

But the big talking point of the game came around the half-hour mark after an apparent malfunction of the goal-line technology system saw the Blades sensationally denied a clear opener.

That would be the game's only big moment, with both sides slugging to a 0-0 stalemate as fans were left to wait for a goal as Man City hosted Arsenal.

In the later kick-off, the big news was that Mesut Ozil was dropped from the Arsenal matchday squads and Fantasy Football managers were stunned as Man City star man Sergio Aguero was named on the bench.

It's half-time currently at the Etihad, and Man City have just broken the deadlock - but the Gunners will be thankful of the new five substitutions rule after losing both Granit Xhaka and Pablo Mari to injury early on.
