Fans react as former Hearts and Rangers winger Neil McCann is linked with Tynecastle job

Reports this morning that Neil McCann could be the next Hearts manager have not been met with much enthusiasm by supporters of the Tynecastle club.

Reports earlier this week suggested that current boss Daniel Stendel was on the verge of leaving the club, with his contract including a relegation clause.

Hearts owner Ann Budge, however, told the Scotsman: “The bottom line is that Daniel feels that things are unfinished for him. He came here to do a job but didn’t get the chance to do what he hoped, so from that perspective he is certainly driven to see things through."

Record Sport last night reported that Neil McCann is "towards the top of a list of potential replacements" should Stendel leave.

That story hasn't gone down particularly well with Hearts fans, as the comments below indicate.

"No...no no no no" said @Jamie_Jambo, adding "Please no".

That view was echoed by @Bzzz1314, who said: "No no no no no", going on to add "No".

There was more empathy on display from @serialsockthief, who said: "Oh god, please don't. He was my first true football love and I couldn't bear to see him struggle or get taken apart by fans already low on tolerance and patience." She went on to ask: "Can we have somebody we don't know please?"

"The prospect of us appointing Neil McCann isn't worth thinking about" said @jordanthorburn1, but @HMFC_France did think about it.

Their verdict? "Oh for f***'s sake".

Except they didn't use asterisks.
