“I believe that these people, like me, are extreme athletes, using their skills to disrupt the international financial markets.”

Any trailer which can get away with dialogue like that suggests giddying nerve, and despite Twitter backlash, the newly released look at the frenzied Point Break remake looks like it could be a wave of a time.

Taking the Fast and Furious formula that, well, Point Break did first, the new version shows extreme sports-loving FBI agent Johnny Utah, played by Luke Bracey, infiltrate a gang of criminals by showing off his sick tattoos.

While the original crew were content to simply brag about their surfing skills, this nauseatingly active group are also into every other thrill-seeking sport imaginable, making the trailer resemble very high-end Red Bull sponsored content.

The original, which paired Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze, is still a cult favourite for many and fan affection has led to a tide of vitriol for the new trailer on Twitter:

Point Break hits UK cinemas on 8January, whether you like it or not.
