Fans puzzled as Lewis Capaldi has Brits thank you speech muted after awards win

Lewis Capaldi fans were left scratching their heads after the West Lothian superstar had his Brit Awards thank you speech muted by organisers.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a fantastic night at the ceremony, winning prizes for Best New Artist and then Song of the Year.

However when he took to the stage to accept the award for the 'new artist' win, his comments were censored by bosses due to swearing.

In hilarious video footage he can be seen drinking a bottle of beer while waving and pointing at the crowd, while pal Niall Horan and radio DJ Clara Amfo are in stitches having handed over the award seconds earlier. Capaldi then briefly speaks into the microphone but his words are muted.

Fans were left in the dark, and desperate to know exactly what was said.

Jessica Toomey tweeted: "Not going to sleep tonight until I find out what Lewis Capaldi just got muted for saying."

Fee added: "Actually raging that Lewis Capaldi's speech was muted #thebrits."

And @JackDuffield2 commented: "WHAT DID LEWIS CAPALDI SAY FOR HIS SPEECH THEY MUTED IT ON TV #Brits2020."

Capaldi was nominated for four awards on the night, and lost out to rapper Stormzy in the Best Male category.

However he did win in the Song of the Year section with his hit single Someone You Loved, and said on accepting the prize: "Contrary to popular belief, a lot of people think this song is about my ex-girlfriend who you can now see every night on Love Island.

"It was actually about my grandmother who has sadly passed away a few years ago.

"I hope to God that ITV don't contact her to be on a reality dating TV show."

He added: "Thank you so much, this has been the best year of my life."
