Fans plan show of support for Hamilton Accies coach Brian Rice after gambling admission

Hamilton Accies fans have backed their head coach Brian Rice after he revealed his gambling addiction had returned.

Supporters have rallied together to sign a shirt with messages of encouragement for their team’s boss

And fans are planning to present it to the head coach after the Livingstone game this weekend.

Earlier this week, Rice made the shock revelation that he had been gambling which goes against SFA rules, and had written to the board with his confession.

But fans are showing their support for the gaffer and say they are backing him 100 per cent.

Ben Patterson who runs the Only Accies fan account said: “David Thomson and I, who run OnlyAccies, thought it’d be a good way to show just how much support Brian has from the fanbase.

“It’s been overwhelming actually to see fans, players, managers and clubs come together and support Rice.

“We know he isn’t online so possibly hasn’t seen all the reactions yet and we thought this would be a nice token from the fans to him so show him we have his back and will stick with him while he fights this disease.”

Ben will be in front of the stadium reception 30 minutes before kick-off with a jersey, and any fan is welcome to sign it and it will then be passed on to Rice.

Rice is facing a Scottish Football Association charge over alleged gambling breaches.

Accies issued a statement on Monday morning confirming that the club had received a notice of complaint from the Scottish FA compliance officer relating to alleged breaches of its gambling rules on the part of Rice.

And the Scottish Premiership outfit said they have “co-operated fully” with the association throughout the investigation period and provided written submissions of self-declaration from Rice himself, with supplementary communication provided by the club’s chief executive, Colin McGowan.
