Fans of shamed Scots actor Kevin Guthrie in cyber war over his wrecked public image

Shamed Sunshine On Leith actor Kevin Guthrie is embroiled in a cyber war over his wrecked public image.

Supporters for the sex offending actor have been cleaning up his online presence to play down his predatory behaviour.

Friends of the jailed Netflix star, 33, are believed to be behind a slew of internet changes after he was labelled a “rapist” and “disgraced” on Wikipedia.

The page has also been updated to include claims the Glasgow-born actor’s legal team made in his defence at Glasgow Sheriff Court before they were dropped.

Guthrie, a rising star of the Scottish screen, was sentenced to three years in jail last month for sexually assaulting a vulnerable actress at Still Game actor Scott Reid’s Glasgow home in 2017.

Insiders say Scotland’s acting community have been left angry about the conviction and his plans to appeal the sentence, now under way.

One source said: “This conviction was far from surprising. He’s been behaving appallingly for a long time. There’s no shortage of stories about his creepy behaviour. Some have seen it first-hand.

“The trouble is many in the industry still don’t feel confident about speaking out, regardless of the MeToo movement. There is genuine fear it will lead to losing out on jobs in the future.

“He still enjoys a lot of support and you can tell by what’s been happening with his Wikipedia page. Some of it has been changed to make him look favourable despite his conviction.

“As soon as he launched his appeal, it was updated and put prominently. Even parts of his failed defence has been put on to look like fact. It’s a careful ploy used to question his guilt.”

Guthrie’s Wiki page shows there has been a number of changes since his conviction – some from computers in Glasgow.

On May 19 it was updated to include reference to his appeal and change his status from “former actor” to “actor”.

An entry that said “no DNA was found on or inside the woman’s body” was also added before later being dropped.

Shamed Guthrie was blasted by a judge for his “heinous” sex attack and told he abused his “position of trust” during last month’s sentencing.

Guthrie showed no emotion when he was jailed and put on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

He denied molesting a woman after she fell ill at Reid’s flat in the city’s Kelvindale area but was convicted by a jury.

After his conviction, the BBC removed all episodes of Inside Central Station – narrated by Guthrie – from iPlayer.
