Fans of comedian Russell Howard fail to see funny side after Welsh shows rescheduled for the fourth time

Fans of Russell Howard have failed to see the funny side after the comic rescheduled two upcoming sold-out shows in Wales for the fourth time. Ticket holders were informed last week that the popular stand-up had once again bumped back his dates at Aberystwyth Arts Centre this week until the end of August due to "personal reasons."

The gigs had originally been meant to take place in September 2020 with some punters claiming they'd first bought tickets to see Howard at the venue as far back as October 2019. But since then the event has been rebooked for June 2021, February 2022 and, most recently, April 11 and 12 this year. Covid was blamed for the first change, while "unforeseen circumstances" was apparently cited for the others.

To make matters worse, all the other dates on the Bath-born funnyman's current UK jaunt - which recently saw him stop off in both Swansea and Cardiff - appear to be going ahead as normal. All of which has left left the punters in Aberystwyth demanding an explanation for the repeated no-shows in their town.

"I booked these tickets in October 2019, " said one disgruntled fan. "Almost four years on and I'm still waiting." A second added: "These tickets were for my sons 16th birthday - he will be 19 next month. I wish I'd got them refunded and gone to Swansea last week to see Russell."

Meanwhile, someone else quipped that they'll be "too old to get to their seat" by the time the show finally transpires. "I was 19 when I got the tickets and I'll be 23 when I see the gig... that's only if it doesn't get delayed again," another complaint read.

Others were simply fed up at having their plans messed around. "When the shows were rescheduled to April I had to cancel as I'd already booked to be on holiday during that time," posted one fed-up admirer. "I'd have hung on to them had I thought it would be changed again."

Another said: "Oh come on! (This time) we've booked a hotel and everything. Don't get me wrong, we love visiting Aber but it would be nice if, just once, it was to see this show."

A spokesperson from Aberysytwyth Arts Centre said: "Due to unforeseen circumstances (Russell's personal reasons) we need to move the Russell Howard Live show from April 11 and 12, 2023, to August 29 and 30, 2023.

"There is no need to contact the Box Office if you wish to keep your current booking." The statement added that those seeking a refund should contact the box office on 01970 62 32 32 or email artstaff@aber.ac.uk. Staff also thanked patrons once again for their "patience, understanding and continued support."
