Fans noticed a standout score on an England team versus media darts match ahead of their European Championship final against Italy after Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin had a ‘zero’ against his name.
Members of the Three Lions squad relaxed ahead of Sunday’s Wembley showdown with a game of darts against the media.
Although Gareth Southgate and his players triumphed, it was a much closer run contest than their last such challenge at the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia.
Back then England beat the media 9-2 but this time it was only a narrow 7-6 victory.
The scoreboard, written on a flip chart was tweeted out by the FA’s Senior Communications Manager for England, Andy Walker.
Despite being a prolific marksman for most of last season, netting a career-high 21 goals for the Blues, and earning his first international call-up (since scoring on his debut against Wales he’s now struck four times in 11 games for his country), Calvert-Lewin appeared to have greater difficulty hitting the target when standing on the oche.
When fan Paul Berry asked what happened with the Everton ace’s blank score, Walker replied: “Three ambitious attempts to hit double 20.”
It seems the Sheffield-born player was attempting to beat the match-high score of 85 hit by Jessica Creighton.
Calvert-Lewin’s Everton club mate Jordan Pickford won his leg 60-47 while there was also a 61-21 success for Liverpool captain J ordan Henderson.
