Fans notice what Andre Gomes did during Everton defeat to Arsenal

Football fans have praised Andre Gomes for an act of sportsmanship in Everton’s 3-2 defeat to Arsenal at the weekend.

The Portuguese midfielder was spotted on Everton’s bench applauding Arsenal full-back Sead Kolasinac, as he was substituted with a shoulder injury after 18 minutes.

The Serbian was making his first appearance for Mikel Arteta’s team for six weeks having been ruled out with an ankle problem.

However, his return was cut short after landing awkwardly following an aerial duel with Djibril Sidibe, and he left the field in a makeshift sling.

Gomes, who made his return to first-team action as a substitute at The Emirates just 112 days after suffering a fracture dislocation to his right ankle in November, was spotted applauding Kolasinac in an Arsenal ‘bench cam’ video on YouTube.

Fans have praised Gomes for his sportsmanship, identifying that he will all too well aware of the feeling of an injury taking you out of the game.

One fan commented on the video: “Who saw Andre Gomes clapping when Kolasinac came off.

"He knows how it feels to get [subbed] off due to injury. Respect.”

Others expressed their approval at the Everton star’s actions, as well as their surprise that he himself was able to return to the side so quickly.

With Gomes' set to play a big part in Everton's end to the season, Arsenal fans will hope that their left-back will be able to emulate his rapid recovery.
