Fans jump to defence of Josh Taylor after criticism of boxer's four hour lockdown cycle

Fans have jumped to the defence of Josh Taylor after the boxer was criticised for embarking on a four hour lockdown cycle at the weekend.

The WBA and IBF world champ came under fire for exceeding his allotted one our exercise by going out on a lengthy bike ride at the weekend.

However Taylor, who lives in Haddington, insists he needs to continue training after a number of people spoke out against his decision to breach lockdown rules, as reported by The Sun.

One person commented that he thinks he's "invincible and untouchable".

While there were some people critical of his actions, scores of his fans jumped to his defence on social media.

Lynsay Ross commented: "This boils my blood, he is a professional fighter who has to keep fit. He is doing nothing wrong."

Liam Rowley added: "Folk should get a grip they only went for a cycle, kept their distance and never seen anyone."

Claire Paterson posted: "It's his job! The government have said work if you can. This is what he is doing. Josh can't sit in his house with one hour of exercise for months his fitness needs to be up to date at all times."

It emerged last month that Taylor may not be able to fight at all this year due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The 29-year-old's title defence against Apinun Khongsong, which was scheduled for next month, has already been postponed.

He previously spoke about fighting at Easter Road, Tynecastle or at the Edinburgh Castle esplanade.
