Fans in tears as Giuseppe dedicates Bake Off win to dad who is going through "very bad time"

Giuseppe Dell'Anno has dedicated his Bake Off win to his father, who he says is "going through a very hard time."

The engineer from Bristol got emotional tonight (Tuesday, November 23) admitting he is "proud" of what he has done and that it wouldn't have been possible without his family.

Giuseppe, 45, was crowned Bake Off 2021 champion after impressing Paul and Prue with his Mad Hatters tea party showstopper.

Speaking about his father, Giuseppe said: “The fact is that everything I have done to deserve this comes from his heritage - it’s the best thank you note I can possibly send him.

“He is going through a very bad time health-wise, so I think this is going to be a great boost.

"I don’t say often or lightly that I am proud of what I do, but in this case I am really proud of what I have done. It’s unbelievable.”

At the end of tonight's episode it was announced that Giuseppe is now working in Milan.

He has also had time to catch up with his family, including his dad, and the pair and planning on writing a book together "to ensure all their family recipes are passed on."

It comes as the baking star said he’d received huge amounts of support during the competition.

“I have had lots of local people getting in touch and thanking me for putting Bristol on the map," he said.

"But equally, Italians all over the UK saying it’s great to be representing our culture in such a high-profile show, has been really heart warming. The Italian community in the UK is pretty massive.”

Since his win tonight viewers have said they are delighted for the baker, and many were left in tears following the emotional show.

One viewer wrote: "We’re all sobbing."

While another said: "I'm not crying, my eyes are just leaking."
