Fans in disbelief at 'disrespectful' role Lionel Messi is forced to carry out for PSG

One of the greatest players of all time is now laying down behind the wall for opposition free-kicks.

Lionel Messi, who netted his first PSG goal on Tuesday night, also showed his selflessness as he got on all fours to prevent Manchester City's Riyad Mahrez sliding a free-kick under the wall late in their Champions League clash.

The Argentine superstar scored the second goal in the French side's impressive 2-0 win over Pep Guardiola's side but many were talking about his wall position.

Few people expected to see the five time Ballon D'Or winner to be the man on the ground - and viewers were in for another surprise when Mbappe took up the position moments later.

One fan said: "I thought I’d never see the day of Messi being the one lying behind the wall."

Another said: "What are they doing putting Messi on the floor behind the wall, who do they think he is. That’s what Ander Herrera is for."

While another added: "Herrera was really stunned to see Messi go down behind the wall.... Mbappe had to go down next.... Messi always leads by humility..... MY INSIGHTFUL GOAT."

Rio Ferdinand reacted on BT Sport: “The moment Mauricio Pochettino asked him to do that at the training ground, someone should’ve gone in there and said, ‘No, no, no, no, no, no.’

“This doesn’t happen to Leo Messi.

"It’s disrespectful, I wouldn’t have it.

“If I was in that team, I’d have to say, ‘Listen, I’ll lay down for you.’

“Sorry, I couldn’t have him laying down like that. I can’t see it.

“He don’t get his kit dirty, that’s not what Messi does.”
