Fans on Twitter who were watching the show were gutted to see her have to go.

The Dame told Ant and Dec that she had never in all her years ever camped before, so going into the Castle made that a first for her.

Kathy said: "Arlene did good. I bet she’s happy to get a warm bath and a comfy bed after that. I don’t think I’d be up for #imaceleb at 78 yrs old, or anytime tbh. Brave lady."

Trisha said: "Disappointed that Arlene left and not @NaughtyBoyMusic but congrats to her for staying in that long and being the oldest celebrity to take part in the show! (although I'm sure there was another 70 year old on the show in the past?)."

Another user said: "I am surprise Arlene is voted out first. There's more boring campmates than Arlene. Arlene Phillips and Naughty Boy got on so well. That stood out for me."

Jillian said: "I am so proud of @arlenephillips for being in the castle at 78 years of age!! You were amazing in there and showed your true colours! Well done Arlene we’ll miss you loads !#ImACeleb."

When leaving, the Dame said that she was "emotional" but couldn't wait to be reunited with her family.

Speaking of her experience on the show, she said: "I psyched myself up, I was so prepared for it.

"I'd focused on why I was doing it and what I wanted to achieve... but it is hard."

She added: "I'd watched it for so long and it's about overcoming fear.

"It brings out something in you and it brings out a lot of emotions and thinking about your life."

When asked who she would like to see win, she answered Naughty Boy.

Speaking of her bond with him, she said: "I did look after him and we did have a bond... he's a very special human being."

*I'm a Celeb airs at 9pm on ITV
