Fans given chance to relive Somerset's Royal London Cup victory in full one year on

Cricket fans searching for some leather on willow during the Bank Holiday weekend have been given the chance to relive Somerset's Royal London Cup win.

Somerset's famous victory will be played in full on Monday by BBC Radio Somerset, with match build-up starting at 9am before ball-by-ball coverage.

It will be a year to the day since Tom Abell's side beat Hampshire at Lord's, and coverage will be both on DAB Radio and the BBC Sport website.

The victory was Somerset's first trophy since 2005, despite being runners up several times, and station editor Nick Bull said it was important to mark the occasion.

“For some of us a summer without cricket is worse than a summer without sunshine,” he said.

“We wanted to do something special for cricket fans by taking them back to that historic day.

“In true Somerset fashion, fans at the game drunk Lord’s out of cider. This time around you can listen while relaxing in your garden with a cider for the full experience.”

The replay is being put on with the help of Somerset County Cricket Club, who will be live tweeting throughout the day as if the match was live.

A spokesman for the club said: “We are delighted to be working with the BBC as part of our latest Somerset Rewind project. The coverage of that special day at Lord’s was exceptional and I know it’ll be great to re-live all the action on May 25 as it happened.

“All the team at BBC Somerset do a fantastic job in covering cricket and I hope fans will enjoy this trip down memory lane.”
