Fans face travel disruption with Liverpool's clash with Rangers set to be impacted by rail strikes

Liverpool's home clash with Rangers in the Champions League is set to be hit by major travel disruption.

The Reds will welcome the Glasgow giants to Anfield on Tuesday, October 4 and train strikes will take place the next day - potentially leaving thousands of Rangers fans with no way back to Glasgow.

Train operator TransPennine Express have urged the public not to travel on the day of the strike unless it is absolutely necessary.

Rangers fans may have to think of an alternative route back to Scotland as a result, with TransPennine Express running minimal services the day after the game.

In a statement, Kathryn O’Brien, Customer and Operations Director for TPE said: “The upcoming industrial action by the rail unions will cause severe disruption to services right across the country, and because of this, we will only be able to operate a handful of services for customers on selected routes, with the days following the strikes also affected.

“We are strongly recommending customers avoid travel unless their journey is absolutely essential on 1, 2, 5, 6 and 8 and 9 October and seek alternative transport instead.”
