Fans' disbelief as The Masked Singer reveals its first celebrity

The Masked Singer is back and as bonkers as ever, with a new batch of famous faces trying to hide their identities as they sing in flamboyant costumes.

The ITV singing competition hosted by Joel Dommett sees an all-star panel of judges attempting to guess who is behind the wacky characters over eight episodes, and tonight the first secret singer was revealed.

Twelve celebs are giving their best performance to avoid being eliminated and having themselves unmasked, and the first episode of the new series on Boxing Day saw the journey end for the Alien.

Many viewers watching at home thought they had her identity guessed from the start because of her distinctive voice, and they were proven right as pop star Sophie Ellis-Bexter was revealed.

Fans couldn't believe that a professional singer was the first to exit the stage.

And Murder on the Dancefloor hitmaker Sophie has been taken to the nation's hearts during the coronavirus pandemic by sharing her weekly kitchen discos on Instagram.

Surrounded by her family Sophie has been belting out a selection of classic hits to keep the nation entertained.

"Sophie Ellis-Bextor finishing last in a SINGING show?! Cancel it," tweeted one fan of the show.

"They've done her dirty," fumed another.

"Kicking off the professional singer in week one. Well done," huffed another viewer.

"What? Sophie Ellis Bexter is wonderful," gasped another fan.

"Congrats to me for getting the obvious clue and obvious answer but what a travesty for the saviour of 2020 to go out," commented another viewer about her early departure.

During the first series earlier this year The Masked Singer viewers were stunned when musical superstar Kelis was unmasked as Daisy.

Kelis, who had huge hits with the Trick Me, Caught Out There and the frothy Milkshake, had been hiding behind a flowery disguise but fans of the show were convinced that the actual Kelis couldn't be on their telly on Saturday night singing as a daisy.
