Fans of Jason Momoa are defending the former Game of Thrones star after he was targeted by body shaming trolls on social media.
The actor was photographed by a pool while on holiday with wife Lisa Bonet in Venice last week, prompting a series of comments from people criticising the actor for his physique.
Some people asked Momoa “what happened to the abs?” and asked whether he’d been to the gym recently while others criticised him for sporting a “dad bod”.
But the actor’s legion of fans were having none of it and soon usurped the naysayers with praiseworthy comments.
“So apparently people are shaming Jason Momoa's Dad bod... you know the body where he looks like an above average fit man instead of a Spartan Warrior?” teased one person.
“All the haters wish they looked half as good,” added another.
Several Twitter users called on the trolls to show some respect to the 39-year-old actor.
Many others seemed baffled by the criticism. "That is most definitely NOT a dad bod," tweeted one fan.
"And even if he did have a dad bod, no on is allowed or worthy enough to 'shame' Jason Momoa because he is Jason Momoa," they added. "Also there's nothing wrong with a dad bod! Body shaming is gross."
The criticism aimed at Momoa comes after Sam Smith opened up about his lifelong struggles with body image in March.
The musician spoke to Jameela Jamil as part of the actor's body positivity interview series, "I Weigh Interviews" and revealed how men "don't really speak about [body image] much".
“Men aren’t supposed to cry or be emotional,” Smith said, adding that a reluctance to address physical insecurities is part of the “toxic masculinity conversation”.
“It doesn’t feel manly does it, to talk about how I feel in my body every day," he added, "but that’s what I’m trying to fight against I guess.”
