Fans cringe as Coronation Street does Love Actually

Coronation Street fans were 'cringing' as a character recreated the divisive cue cards moment from Love Actually.

Viewers couldn't believe what they were seeing as smitten Curtis Delamere professed his love for Emma Brooker after being sent packing by his bride on their wedding day.

Emma showed Curtis the door after he was suspected of stealing £100,000 meant for a charity in memory of her half brother Oliver Battersby.

Corrie fans were outraged when they heard the groom on the phone booking a trip abroad and in dramatic scenes the wedding party turned on Curtis when the money failed to turn up in the charity account.

Curtis tried to convince his bride that the travel booking was for their honeymoon but she sided with her dad after being taken in by her partner's lies over his health.

She found out last week that he wasn't dying from a heart condition and had a factitious disorder in which someone deceives others by appearing sick.

In Wednesday night's double bill Curtis turned up with cue cards in an attempt to win Emma back, telling her 'I'm sorry' and 'I love you.'

But Emma was not impressed (ITV)

But she showed him the door again, raging: "If you've any idea how much you've humilated me and then you do this.

"Is this a joke to you?"

Fans took to Twitter to have their say about the scenes, and they didn't hold back.

@KyleSew2112 asked: "What is this cringe and why are they absolutely destroying Love Actually?"

@RobinS66BS said: "Curtis going Love Actually. What a berk."

@SammyBratley pleaded: "Cannot cope with Curtis doing love actually scene on corra… just stop #Corrie

@itzzzo_commented: "Coronation Street’s gone Love Actually."

@keeleysdrake said: "not the love actually."

@MarcusStarrFTW fumed: "You've ruined Love Actually Curtis."

And @LunaLocoJewels said: "This is actually the worst thing Curtis has done."

Love Actually, written and directed by Richard Curtis, has been a staple of the season for viewers since its release in 2003.

But the famous scene in which Mark, played by Andrew Lincoln, declares his love for his best friend's wife Juliet, played by Keira Knightley, using written cue cards has been parodied many times.

And a new generation of fans have questioned if the scene is actually romantic or just creepy.

Sadly there wasn't a romantic outcome for Emma in Corrie as she later found out that Curtis had been innocent all along.

Her dad had hidden from her the fact that the money had come through later due to a technical fault.

And she only discovered the truth when the charity turned up for a photo call with a giant cheque.
