Fans could 'return to stadiums' next week at Murrayfield test event

Fans could return to stadiums as early as next week according to reports.

The Scottish government are prepared to give the green light to a test event at Murrayfield next Friday night between Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh, reports the Daily Record.

The SRU are in talks with Holyrood in an attempt to get 1000 supporters inside Scotland's biggest stadium for the second leg of the PRO 14 clash.

The two sides will start their season behind closed doors at the weekend, but Scottish rugby are hoping they can welcome the return of spectactors with strict social distancing measure in place.

Celtic reportedly joined forces with the SRU last month to get fans back in grounds as quickly as possible, but that approach was thrown out by Nicola Sturgeon.

But this latest plan seems to have the backing of politicians as rugby bids to be the first sport in Scotland to see the return of fans.
