A carefully worded tweet about the surprise retirement of Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has "Jeopardy" fans questioning whether former champion James Holzhauer lost his final game on purpose.
"I hope to be as brave as Andrew Luck one day," Holzhauer wrote. "Imagine reaching the pinnacle of the only job you've ever trained for, finding no joy in it, and having the guts to do the right thing for yourself even though millions of fans will hate you for it."
Naturally, Holzhauer's tweet caught the attention of fans who were shocked when he lost after 32 consecutive victories to University of Chicago librarian Emma Boettcher in June.
"New game: imagine you pulled off the most dominant upset in Jeopardy history and people won't shut up about how the 32x champ must have let you win," Holzhauer tweeted along with the hashtag #JeopardyEmma.
Holzhauer is known for lightly ribbing himself about losing on the quiz show, so it's possible the pro-Luck tweet was simply another in that vein.
Holzhauer's total winnings of $2,464,216 fell just short of Ken Jennings' all-time record of $2,520,700. He'll have the chance to add to his "Jeopardy" haul, but not the overall record, when he participates in the Tournament of Champions, which begins airing in November.
