Fans complain Corrie got the north Wales accent wrong

Coronation Street fans were amused as they watched Gemma Winter dramatically give birth while swinging in a cable car in Llandudno - but some complained that the soap didn't hit the right mark with the north Wales accent.

Fans took to social media to point out that the accents in birth scenes featuring Gemma and her fiance Chesney sounded more south Wales.

"Sorry but why is everyone speaking in a south walien accent on Corrie just because they’re filming in Llandudno???" asked one viewer.

"Last time I checked, people in North Wales didn’t have such a broad Welsh accent," tweeted another.

"South Wales accents in Llandudo," said another soap watcher.

But another defended: "Annoyed by some of the comments on here about South Wales accents being in Llandudno!

"They have obviously never been to Bangor, which is just up the road from there and they are very typical Bangor accents on display here!"

Gemma and Chesney were met by paramedics after the couple were guided through delivering one of their quads over the phone.

They were left suspended in the cable car after Ches pulled the emergency lever when Gemma's waters broke.

Back on the ground, the kebab shop diva was rushed to hospital to give birth to their other three babies.

The newly engaged couple named their babies Bryn, Cleo and Carys, in honour of those who came to their aid, and Aled after the singer Aled Jones famous for the festive song Walking in the Air because he was born in the air.

The scenes were played out at the Great Orme, the home of the longest cable car system in Britain which glides to the summit 679 feet above the coastal town.
