Fans complain after Grammys 'relegate FKA Twigs to backing dancer' in Prince tribute

FKA Twigs took part in the Grammys’ tribute to Prince - but fans were left surprised when she didn’t sing a single note.

The British singer, who is also a Grammy Award nominee, joined Usher and Shelia E on stage at the Staples Centre on Sunday (January 27) night.

Usher opened the medley of hits with Little Red Corvette, before moving onto When Doves Cry and Kiss, while percussionist Sheila provided backing vocals.

This left Twigs (whose full name is Tahliah Debrett Barnett) showing off her seriously impressive dance moves.

And while fans enjoyed her performance, many questioned why Twigs didn’t also provide vocals:

Twigs later tweeted, revealing that she "wasn't asked" to singer at the event.

"Of course i wanted to sing at the grammys," she wrote. "i wasn’t asked this time but hopefully in the future. none the less what an honour. congratulations to all winners x." [sic]

This year’s Grammys Awards devoted more time to musical performances with Lizzo opening the show and dedicating the moment to Kobe Bryant.

Ariana Grande also took to the Grammys stage for the first time since 2015, backed by an orchestra as she took the crown on a whistle-stop tour of her recent hits.

The 7 Rings hitmaker changed outfits midway through her performance, swapping a gown for a pink fully dressing gown and recreating a section of the track’s video with backing dancers.
