Final Fantasy XIV 6.3 is just around the corner, and Square Enix teased one of the MMO game’s most-anticipated new additions. It’s not the new raid or the continuation of long-running quests. It’s the Corgi minion.
The game’s Japanese YouTube account posted a YouTube Short showcasing the Corgi minion and its different actions and poses for the first time, after it showed up briefly during a presentation in October 2022. The short runs the Corgi through its paces, with sitting and trotting animations, happy wags, and an endearing animation where it sits down, cocks its head to one side, and smiles at you.
The Corgi will also turn around from time to time and plop down to show its specially-marked haunches, two little drumstick-shaped cream patches set above the pup’s tiny little legs.
Fans are lapping it up, so to speak. The original short racked up more than 30,000 views just hours after the video went live. Final Fantasy influencer Audrey (aitakimochi) posted on Twitter that the Corgi – and its butt – are “everything,” to which several Corgi owners responded with images of their own pups doing “the sploots” just like the minion version.
One Twitter user commented how much better FFXIV’s Corgis look compared to those in Lord of the Rings Online, which seem rather as if they might have been crossed with Hobbit at some point in their family trees.
How to get the Corgi minion remains to be seen, but with patch 6.3 launching on Jan. 10, 2023, we won’t have to wait long for the furball to join the adventure. Patch 6.35 launches sometime not long after, and Final Fantasy 16 will release for PS5 on June 22, 2023.
