Fans booed Zion Williamson because he turned down a dunk in practice

Whenever Zion Williamson is involved in basketball-related activities, it is a must-watch event. That includes a practice.

Fans packed Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, S.C., on Thursday to take in the Blue Devils’ open practice ahead of their first-round game against a team that stands no chance (kidding, it’s North Dakota State).

While the Blue Devils have a loaded roster and three projected top-10 picks, everyone came to see Zion Williamson.

The wanted dunks. Lots of dunks. It’s a free open practice, and these fans expected Williamson to dunk relentlessly on command. When Williamson, instead, opted to go for a layup during a three-man weave, the crowd jokingly booed the effort.

A little-known fact about dunking is that dunking can be painful. If you dunk as viciously as Williamson does, you’ve probably smacked your wrist on the rim and left with a nasty bruise. There’s no need for Zion to risk an injury during practice. We’re talking about practice.

Oh, nevermind.

OK. That’s what the people wanted to see.
