Fans blast 'unrealistic' Emmerdale storyline as Kyle, 10, charged with murder for killing Al

Emmerdale fans have slammed the show 's "unconvincing" Kyle storyline, after the 10-year-old was charged with the murder of Al. Kyle was hauled into the police station again today, to discuss his part in the killing - though Cain has maintained his son's innocence, in a desperate attempt to keep Kyle out of prison.

But all Kyle wants is for his dad to get out of prison, which is exactly what he told the police officer while being interviewed in today's episode. After being asked if there was any part of his statement that he wanted to change, Kyle said: "No, it's like I told you, I killed Al."

The police officer replied: "Then I have to tell you, based on this interview and the evidence gathered, you could be charged with murder, do you understand what that means?"

And Kyle, still set on freeing his dad, stuck to his story. He said: "Yeah, you have to let my dad out, now." But Cain, far from being touched at his son's selflessness, was absolutely fuming - because it was meddling Caleb that has persuaded Kyle to confess in the first place.

Speaking to Matty later in the episode, Moira predicted a fallout with Cain. She said: "Cain gave up his freedom to save his son from this, and it could all be for nothing now that Kyle has confessed. And he [Cain] will never forgive me for listening to Caleb."

Sure enough, when the pair spoke at the end of the episode, Cain angrily asked Moira: "Why did you have to let Caleb speak to him? I warned you Moira, I told you you couldn't trust him."

He then asked where Kyle was and Moira broke the new that, while he was at home for now, he'd be off to a children's home tomorrow before awaiting his hearing at a youth court. But she tried to put a positive spin on things by telling Cain that at least he might be home soon.

Unsurprisingly, this did little to soften Cain's mood, who replied: "Don't you understand? I'd rather do the time here than Kyle be labelled a killer, but thanks to you and Caleb, I've failed him."

But tonight's storyline failed to move viewers, who blasted it as unrealistic. @Griannedoherty3 said: "Did the Police kinda totally forget something kinda major & blatantly f*****g obvious in all this? Where was the actual GSR test on Cain's hands? Surely that would of immediately proven he never actually fired the gun in the first place & raised some serious doubts?"

@skehina said: "As if someone would expect a 10yr old to lie for life over a murder storyline is not convincing at all".

@PaulPoeUK said: "Caleb revenge storyline is so badly written. Revenge for his brother taking the blame for him and going to prison. He could have seeked him out before Faith died. It makes zero sense."

He added: "As someone who does not work in the police and has no clue how they would handle this situation. I find it hard to believe a police officer with no witness would walk in heavy handed when a child is involved. I would have thought they’d have a family councillor."

@Daz0289 said: "They only just got started and this so called copper said let's take a break? What's he going for a crafty kit kat choc bar!" @Chris1968E said: "this officer doesn't seem to know how to about rights but then again none in Emmerdale do".
