As the offseason chugs along, anticipation about the Los Angeles Rams’ brand refresh grows. Their new logo and colors will reportedly be unveiled before the draft – the team hinted it’s coming soon on Twitter Saturday – with the uniforms being released afterwards.
Of course, fans have had their eyes peeled for any potential leaks ahead of the big reveal, and recently, a new hat surfaced on Twitter and Reddit. It features blue and yellow styling of the letters L.A., with what appears to be a combination of the Chargers’ lightning bolt and a Rams horn.
Needless to say, everyone is hoping this is either A) Photoshopped, B) fake or C) an alternate logo for the Chargers.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear to be Photoshopped because another angle of the hat also surfaced. It says “Time to shine” on the side panel, which could be used for either the Rams or Chargers.
Could this just be a generic hat sold at SoFi Stadium to appease both fanbases? It’s hard to imagine either team using a logo that could be mistaken for the other team’s branding.
The hat appears to be for the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft, which will be held in Las Vegas. That explains the neon coloring, as well as the neon writing on the side.
However, as real as this appears to be, a quick investigation brings about some doubt – in a good way, of course. This 49ers hat also leaked ahead of the draft, in the same style as the L.A. one.
But, this document showing every team’s logo with the phrasing on the side doesn’t match what the physical hat shows. On the hat, the 49ers’ side panel reads “Faithful to the Bay.”
In Michael Kist’s tweet below, it reads “Niners.” There’s also no sign of this new Rams/Chargers logo in Kist’s tweet, either.
So, this could mean a couple of things. Either this is an alternate logo for the Rams or Chargers, or it was an old sample of a draft hat that won’t actually be released. That could also be the case for the 49ers hat that supposedly leaked; it could just be a mock-up from the early stages of the design.
Either way, there isn’t a single person that wants to see this L.A. logo used by the Rams or Chargers because it is so, so bad. Panic has begun to set in on Twitter and Reddit with fans hoping this doesn’t see the light of day.
