Fans angered by Shane Ross' behaviour at Katie Taylor's homecoming

Katie Taylor returned home to a hero's welcome at Dublin Airport on Tuesday morning where she was met by hundreds of cheering fans.

She was also welcomed by Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Shane Ross, who many feel was enjoying being in front of the cameras more than the newly crowned undisputed world lightweight champion.

The TD for Dublin Rathdown followed the Bray boxer around the airport and posed for numerous photos.

A number of people took to social media to have their say on the TD's actions, with one poster likening him to ex Chelsea star John Terry after he joined in with his team's Champions League victory celebrations in 2012 wearing his full kit - including shinpads - despite having been suspended.

Twitter user Kieran McCarthy wrote: "Cringe-inducing stuff here from Shane Ross in full John Terry kit celebration mode. Step away and let Katie Taylor have her moment."

And many more fans were angered by Mr Ross' behaviour, with another tweeting "This moment should be all about Katie Taylor and Shane Ross just couldn't step aside could he."

Meanwhile, Taylor said a rematch between her and Belgian Delfine Persoon is "inevitable".

Speaking at the Arrivals Hall in Terminal 2, she told reporters: “I think the rematch is inevitable, it’s a fight people want to see again, and I can’t wait for it!”

It's still not clear if there will also be a welcome home party for Taylor in Dublin city centre or her native Bray - with Dublin Lord Mayor Nial Ring offering to host something in the Mansion House if Shane Ross fails to.
