Fans impressed after Irish teen goalkeeper makes stunning Premier League debut against Spurs

Eyebrows were raised when the previously unknown goalkeeper Mark Travers was announced in the Bournemouth starting 11 to play Tottenham on Saturday lunchtime.

Artur Boruc dropped to the bench to allow the Irish youngster the opportunity to impress, with the Cherries having little to play for.

Any worries Bournemouth fans may have had ahead of kick-off were soon dispelled after Travers made a string of great saves against Tottenham's dangerous attack.

First he dived well to his right to push away Dele Alli's long range drive, and then acrobatically tipped a Lucas Moura effort over the bar.

He made two more good saves from the same players before half-time, frustrating Spurs time and time again.

Mark Travers 'buzzing' with Republic of Ireland senior opportunity

Heung-Min Son saw red before half-time after he shoved Jefferson Lerma in the face and Bournemouth were aggrieved they didn't win a penalty when Eric Dier appeared to clip Callum Wilson in the box.

But after a thrilling first half packed with incident the main story was still Travers' eye-catching performance.
