Fancy your own fishing loch or paddle board paradise?

Fishing or watersports lovers may be interested in hooking an old hill reservoir going under the hammer on Friday.

The rare lot sits on Duchal Moor on the Renfrewshire Heights.

But it has not fed into public water mains for years.

More recently the High Kilmacolm Dam was drained of millions of gallons of water.

The remote spot spans 16 acres in a triangular shape of rough ground.

But it’s thought there would be little to stop the new owner filling it back up again and cashing in on the current surge in kayaking and paddle boarding.

Since lockdown thousands of people have taken to the water as team sports dried-up.

As a stocked fishing spot in a stunning and quiet location, it could also lure in anglers.

The old walkway to the reservoir tower is still in place.

With a guide price of £85,000, bidders will battle it out in a virtual auction room being run by National Property Auctions.

Auction managing director Mandi Cooper said: “Situated in a stunning rural setting, this former reservoir could be utilised for a number of things.

“It offers an exceptionally rare opportunity with potential to grow income from leisure, tourism and environmental enterprises.”

The spot is a half-a-mile walk off Gateside Road near to the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park.

The area was famous for having its own railway, dubbed the Grouse Line.

Shipbuilding magnate Sir James Lithgow got his men to build the track after marine orders dipped after the war.

The line was used to take his grouse shooting parties into the hills.

It closed in the late 1970s, but the track remains, hidden under grass.

The auction house notes the surrounding countryside is popular for golf, walking, running, cycling and water sports.

The reservoir used to supply water within the Parish of Kilmacolm.

Bidding opens at 10am and potential buyers need to register first with National Property Auctions.
