Best Great North Run fancy dress as entrants certainly know how to dress to impress

Sunshine and smiles greeted this year's Great North Run as tens of thousands pounded the roads in the world-famous half-marathon.

And it just wouldn't have been the Great North Run , of course, without a touch of fancy dress.

Costumes ranging from to the downright bizarre - remember the fridge? - have become a trademark feature of the event and certainly add to the colour and fun of the event.

And on a day of personal achievement, and fund-raising success and sheer celebration which saw Sir Mo Farah pull of a record sixth consecutive win, fancy dress wearers once again played their part.

And imaginative costumes ranged from an inflatable horse to giraffes and dinosaurs and from superheros to a Dracula supervillain.

There were Roman Centurions and cartoon characters and others in tutus and inflatables and if there's one guarantee about Geordies and their fellow participants in the Great Run North it's that they know how to have fun and bring a smile to the face despite all the effort and commitment they make to what is  a real physical challenge.
