Forget BBQs — I'm calling it, this is going to be the summer of crispy, gooey and tomatoey outdoor pizza. The home pizza oven market is now fully established, and there's a wide variety of options for different households. Gas pizza ovens are probably the most common, but you can also pick up wood and charcoal options for a delicious, smokey flavor. If you're willing to spend a bit more, you can keep your options open by picking a multi-fuel option. Pizza purists should look away now, but I've even included a few electric options, which deliver maximum convenience and precise temperature control.
Perhaps the two biggest brands in this space are Ooni and Gozney, both of which have a wide range of pizza oven options at different price points. These include compact, portable ovens you could feasibly pop in your car and set up at a family gathering, as well as chunkier ones that are definitely designed to stay put. Shopping around, you'll also find that some big kitchen brands have a pizza oven or two in the mix, and there are a few smaller, independent brands to watch out for too.
Read on for my pick of the best pizza ovens to consider this summer. Click the View details button to find out more about each one, or hop to the Specs comparison table at the bottom to see how the different options compare.
Perfect pizzas
This is your best bet if you want a simple, portable pizza oven that can still cook relatively large pizzas — this gas model can handle pies of up to 14 inches in diameter.
A more compact gas pizza oven with retractable legs and a detachable burner, for those seeking a portable option. It's gas-powered with the option of adding wood burning capability.
Pros

Cons

It's not for purists, but the Artisan shines when it comes to convenience — this electric outdoor oven can double as an air fryer. It has a lower maximum temperature than most 'true' pizza ovens.
For those who want big pizzas but don't have a ton of storage space, the gas-powered Arc XL has a large capacity in a compact form — it's one of only a handful of options that can cook 16-inch pizzas.
This Jamie Oliver-approved gas oven has an interior plate that rotates when you crank the handle on the outside, for even cooking and no burnt bits. It has a slightly lower maximum temperature than most of my picks.
A supersized, premium, multi-fuel option for people who are serious about their home pizzas. This pizza oven can manage 16-inch pizzas, or even squeeze in two smaller pizzas at once.
Pros
- Generous cooking space
- Easy wood fire
- Dual thermometer display
Cons
- Too large for apartments
- Wood kit not included
- Can be visually dominating
A relatively lightweight, portable and affordable option that offers versatility by supporting a range of fuel types.
The Karu 12 is slightly lower specced than its successor, the Karu 2, but still ultra-capable and convenient, as well as being a more affordable option.
An electric pizza oven offers precise control, and the Volt has a huge temperature range, so you can use it for all kinds of dishes.
Perhaps the most stylish and sturdy of the bunch, the Delivita wood-fired oven has a clay and stone interior. It's the only wood-only option here, and delivers a truly scorching maximum temperature.
An ultra-stylish, minimalist option, the Woody pizza oven works with a range of fuel types, and you can even add a gas attachment.
