While the Boston Celtics may be lucky enough to not have any players exhibiting symptoms of the coronavirus currently behind the NBA’s suspension of league activities, at least one fan who was at the game they played against the Utah Jazz recently were not so lucky.
It seems a young fan who got an autograph from Jazz center Rudy Gobert — whose later positive results for coronavirus infection sparked the suspension of NAB activities — has also tested positive for the virus, according to Westerly, Rhode Island police via MassLive’s Tom Westerholm.
It is unknown if the autograph or Gobert had anything to do with the unnamed minor coming down with the virus, as it’s possible they could have come into contact with it via other means.
A previous statement released by the Celtics suggested it was unlikely the Jazz big man (presumably the unnamed Jazz player mentioned in the statement) was contagious at the time of the Jazz’ visit, but with these sorts of things, it’s virtually impossible to know.
For now, the NBA and much of the U.S. have suspended non-essential activities that would require large numbers of people to be in one place to minimize the risk of coronavirus transmission.
