Filming ground to halt on sets around the world - and although actors are now beginning to return to their roles, crews face the difficult task of negotiating social distancing measures in every scene.
With physical intimacy between actors strictly off limits, shows like EastEnders have been using plastic screens to film kissing scenes in a bid to keep storylines running.
But another soap has found a different way to keep the romance flowing - and it's left viewers in stitches after being spotted by an eagle-eyed fan.
American soap The Bold and the Beautiful aired a kissing scene between two characters in a recent episode, but a fan spotted one of the stars had been expertly replaced with a mannequin.
The scene went viral after TikTok user cristinafuentes128 uploaded a video showing the moment Kiara Barnes is switched with a dummy for the kiss, along with the caption: "The show must go on."
It racked up more than 1.4 million views and was shared on Twitter, where it even attracted the attention of the two actors involved.
Kiara replied to say: "Yoooo let me tell you how awkward this was to film" and Lawrence Saint-Victor - who was tasked with convincingly kissing the mannequin - simply said: "That's the job bro."
And others piled in to praise his acting during the kiss, as one wrote: "I mean the soulful way he looked that mannequin straight in the eyeballs and kissed her. Give that man a daytime Emmy NOW."
A second said: "See this is why actors are unique because they can pull this kind s*** off: like running around in front of a green screen and talking to tennis balls, now kissing mannequins, all of it with a straight face and all the sincerity in the world. I would not be able to stop laughing."
Another asked: "How did y’all know it was a mannequin!!! I would not have known."
