Fan Pulse: Which tenured Dolphin do fans want back most?

We had so much fun with yesterday’s #FanPulse poll that we ran another one for today. Today’s poll is centered around which Miami Dolphin, currently under contract for 2019 but facing a potential cut or trade, the fans want to see back the most.

The poll, which we ran on Twitter (@thedolphinswire), featured three Miami Dolphins currently set to make more than $8M next season.

  • LB Kiko Alonso ($8.2M cap hit in 2019)
  • DE Robert Quinn ($12.9M cap hit in 2019)
  • SAF Reshad Jones ($17.2M cap hit in 2019)

Nearly 1,000 Dolphins fans weighed in on this landslide vote:

Dolphins fans overwhelmingly voted in support of bringing back Reshad Jones, and rightfully so. Jones’ contract will difficult to part from unless he is part of a trade. Even then, there are stipulations that the Dolphins will need to be mindful of.

For example, cutting Jones prior to June 1st would yield a net $6M loss against the salary cap. Odds are you can rule that one out all together.

But a post-June 1st trade would free up $13.1M against the 2019 salary cap, so Jones isn’t exactly home free to play in Miami in 2019 just yet.

That said, with an overwhelming 65% of the vote, Dolphins fans would love to get their way and see one of the league’s more underrated safeties back in aqua and orange again next season.
