Fan of Betting but Not Sports? What are the Alternatives?

Sports betting is a long-standing tradition, going back to the Ancient world. It seems that for as long as people have been competing, others have been wagering on the outcome. However, as entertainment continues to grow, we are now exposed to all sorts of different media. This has resulted into a lot of folks being disinterested in sports. But, the urge to wager is still there. So, what are some betting options that go beyond sports?

eSports

Video games seem to be the entertainment of the 21st century. Though they’ve been around for over half-a-century, games truly entered pop culture and the zeitgeist in the early 2000s. Nowadays, video games are a staple of modern entertainment and popular culture.

Naturally, people are curious if they can bet on them. The answer is “yes.” Online bookies now allow betting on eSports. A portmanteau of ‘electronic’ and ‘sports,’ eSports refers to the world of competitive gaming that became so popular at the start of the century.

What we are saying is that you can wager on the outcome of video game competitions. But, what are the most popular games in eSports, you may wonder? Let us take a look at some of the biggest names:

  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
  • The FIFA Series
  • League of Legends
  • DOTA 2
  • Fortnite

Politics

Whether you like it or not, you are constantly exposed to politics and political opinions. It is unavoidable in the 21st century to go anywhere without being exposed to talk of the latest presidential election, or even local politics. Some people are into it, some are fed up with it, and some are visiting the bookies.

That is right, a lot of bookies, both land-based and online, are offering odds on the upcoming U.S. presidential election. Indeed, a lot of bookies consistently cover politics from all over the world. If you are willing to wager on the next president of Ireland, for example, you can do that.

Not only that, but a lot of bookies offer prop bets on political campaigns. A notable example came from an Irish bookie that put odds on whether a certain American presidential candidate would get assassinated, for which they got a lot of flak.

Scripted Television

It may seem a tad bit counter-intuitive to wager on scripted television. After all, there are people who know what is going to happen. Regardless, a lot of bettors are deeply enamored by the world of the TV, and are willing to put their cash up on an outcome in the latest television show.

One of the more notable examples of people betting on scripted television was during the height of Game of Thrones’ popularity. The television show was notorious for killing off members of the main cast. So, a lot of fans would wager on the likelihood that a character would get killed off by the ongoing season’s end.

Other popular shows that got a lot of bettors include Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Attack on Titan, and Netflix’s Orange is the New Black. While scripted TV betting is not the biggest draw, there are quite a lot of fans who enjoy doing it to this day.
