Fan gets tattoo of favourite football player who signs up for another team 3 days later

Well tatts awkward... A footie fan had a tribute to his favourite player inked days before he left the club.

Stockport County supporter Callum Taylor, 23, had the words “Super Sammy Minihan” put on his thigh last Monday.

But on Thursday it was announced right back Minihan was moving to FC Halifax Town. Callum said he was “gutted” but has no regrets.

He added: “Everyone keeps saying ‘Are you going to get rid of it?’, but not a chance. It’s staying.”

Callum was on holiday in Zante, Greece, and decided to get his first-ever tattoo.

“I wanted to get something I would remember and something fun,” he said.

“I had been thinking about what to do all day. I walked into the tattoo shop and that’s when I had the idea. I wanted it to be something that I found quite funny.

“Sam is a legend. He has been at County for six years and he is my favourite player. He was a fans’ favourite. I don’t have any regrets. I have even had a conversation with him on Facebook. I posted a picture of my tattoo and tagged him into it and got a reply off him. He said it was unreal and said to me ‘what a bloke’.”

Callum, from Stockport, Greater Manchester, added: “My mum was just a bit shocked and said ‘what have you done?’ But all my mates think it’s quality.

“I’m gutted he’s leaving but will always watch out for him and hope he smashes it with Halifax.”

Minihan, 28, made 174 appearances for Stockport and last season helped them win promotion back to the Football League for the first time in 11 years.

After joining National League side Halifax he tweeted his thanks to the County fans, writing: “Overwhelmed with all of your messages. I really can’t thank every single one of you enough. Six incredible years.”
