ESPN radio host 'nearly arrested' at Heathrow Airport during meltdown over son's golf clubs

A famous US sports radio host has revealed that he was nearly arrested at Heathrow Airport during a meltdown over some missing golf clubs.

ESPN’s Chris Russo, known to thousands as ‘Mad Dog’ has claimed that police were called to the UK’s busiest airport after he got in a row with British Airways staff about trying to retrieve the items.

The presenter, who is famous for his scathing rants on air, had been on a trip to Europe, which included an eight-day golfing getaway to Dornoch, Scotland.

Recalling his trip live on air, the presenter said: “My son flew from Phoenix to Dallas, all the way to London.

“He had two bags, he had to go to Inverness, an hour and a half south of Dornoch, he had a golf tag, so you can find and follow your luggage.

“His clothes made it but his golf bag didn’t. So he tells me, and I’m at Heathrow waiting for my connection, he texts me ‘dad my golf clubs didn’t make it’.

“We’re playing on Saturday morning!”

The enraged presenter continued: “It took me two and a half hours to locate the clubs at Heathrow. They didn’t know where they were. My son needed the golf clubs for crying out loud.”

Russo explained that despite eventually finding the golf clubs he was not able to take them away from the airport, and the items remained trapped overnight at Heathrow.

When he tried to complain and take the items the broadcaster said he was told it was part of the airport’s protocol.

He continued: “I'm not interested in protocol! I'm interested in the 5-iron! I am not interested in that!

“And they called the police on me. I'm a loud American. 'We're gonna get the authorities.'

“I don’t give a c*** about authorities get the golf clubs where they’re supposed to be!”

When asked by his fellow TV host if he’d been arrested, Russo quipped: “Almost, the cops came. I said ‘I’d be okay,’ calm down.”

Russo spent around 10 minutes in total complaining about his trip at the beginning of ESPN show First Take.
