Famous Lanarkshire Hallowe'en house to return next month

A Hallowe'en-obsessed family are delighted to announce they will be transforming their Motherwell home once again into a terrifying haunted house.

Last year William and Roslyn Howson, of Fort Street, took the tough decision to cancel their annual event last October because of the pandemic.

However, this year they are set to welcome hundreds of guizers once again to their home to mark their 15th year.

It takes the couple eight weeks to get their house ready for the Hallowe'en display – unpacking 40 boxes of decorations, bought from as far away as Japan and America.

William told Lanarkshire Live : "Having to cancel last year was a real blow.

"But we're delighted to be doing it this year. We have already begun with the decorations inside which usually takes us weeks to get ready.

"It's a real family effort and although I haven't been keeping in the best health I really wanted to do it this year.

"We have huge gazebos ready for out the back garden of the house and we plan on transforming the front of our timber house into a medieval castle with brick panels.

"It's going to look really great."

This year Hallowe'en falls on a Sunday and people will be able to enter their garden through the side gate for the one-day event.

The pair started the tradition after throwing a Hallowe'en party for their grandson’s fifth birthday in 2006.

Trick-or-treaters queued up on the narrow street for hours to go through the haunted house, which was kitted out with hundreds of creepy decorations and scary mannequins.
