Famous Glasgow seafood restaurant unveils new sushi menu

Stop everything you’re doing - we have some news for those of you who love the ‘soosh’.

Glasgow's iconic seafood restaurant, the , is now offering a Sushi & Sashimi platter.

Sushi? At the Rogano? It feels so wrong but yet so right.

“It’s a bit different to what we've normally done,” says Martin Connor, the head chef at the city centre restaurant. “But as a seafood restaurant I wanted to shake it up a bit and offer everything seafood related that's great.

“I couldn’t leave out sushi and caviar - so on they went."

Before supermarket meal deals, sushi was considered seriously classy lassie behaviour.

Back then, it was an exotic food that could only be found at the finest sushi bars.

And with the Rogano being the most sophisticated seafood restaurant in town, it all makes delicious sense.

“Training a bunch of Glaswegian chefs, an Englishman, and a Pole to make sushi is a challenge - the only other chef I have with any sushi experience is from the Philippines."

But if the rest of Rogano’s menu is anything to go by - this new addition to the menu won't disappoint.

So, what tantalising flavours should be expect? Well, for starter there is tuna tartare with avocado wasabi, puffed pork, sea truffle salt as well as langoustine nigiri with oscietra-soft shell crab tempura with watermelon and Thai basil maki -monkfish sashimi and many more.

Don’t worry, we aren’t sure what most of those words mean either. Ponzo and katsubushi? Never heard of them, mate.

Although looking through Rogano’s platter pictures on Facebook, every single item looks furiously good.

“We do the platters in 6/12/18 format so 1 person can have it as a starter or a larger one for a main course or as intermediate, or sharer.

“It’s quite flexible, again trying to break the old fashioned stiff 3 course fine dining feeling and allow for a bit more freedom on the menu.”

And if you’re quietly wondering if there will be vegan alternatives…

Martin added: “In the new year i’ll also be working on vegan sushi which will be fun.”
