FINAL FRONTIER …

Women’s football, basking in the World Cup heroics of the Lionesses, has another chance to add a measure of gilded sheen to its burgeoning standing in the game with Saturday’s first staging of the Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium. Chelsea Ladies and Notts County Ladies are the finalists and the match, which kicks off at 3pm, will be shown live on BBC One. Neither team has ever won the competition before but both boast a host of England luminaries such as Laura Bassett and Alex Greenwood of Notts County as well as Chelsea’s Eniola Aluko and Katie Chapman.

HEROIC ENCORE ...

Coinciding with National Paralympic Day, the Olympic Stadium plays host to the IPC Grand Prix Final (Channel 4, 2pm) on Sunday, allowing athletics fans to get a good look at some of Britain’s London 2012 conquering cohorts. Returning to the scene of their sporting triumphs will be Jonnie Peacock, David Weir, Hannah Cockroft and Richard Whitehead.
