Famous and Fighting Crime: What is it about and who are the celebrities taking part?

The team: Jamie Laing, Sandi Bogle, Penny Lancaster, Marcus Brigstocke and Katie Piper (Picture: Channel 4 / Ryan Mcnamara)

Five famous faces are swapping their day jobs for life in the emergency services to show us what it’s like on the front line as a crime fighter.

The brand new Channel 4 series puts celebrities on the streets with Cambridgeshire Constabulary, experiencing daily life through the eyes of those protecting us.

Over four episodes, the celebrities get to grips with the training and effort required to be a volunteer police officer as they face situations they never imagined they’d confront.

Here’s what you need to know about Famous and Fighting Crime

What is Famous and Fighting Crime?

Five celebrities are out on the streets with Cambridgeshire Police, responding to 999 calls on shift and being faced with very real, and often dangerous, situations.

Throughout the series, they tackle rowdy city centres on party night and high risk drug raids, as well as scuffles in shops and domestic disputes.

The five volunteers will join around 12,000 unpaid volunteers in the force, known as Special Constables, as they work to fit their personal lives around the demands of the job.

Who are the celebrities?

The fabulous (and famous) five swapping their celebrity lifestyle for one of the toughest jobs in the country include a comedian and several reality stars. They are:

Katie Piper

Out and about: Katie Piper (Channel 4)

The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant is an active campaigner and a well-known presenter. Since being the victim of an acid attack in March 2008, Piper has dedicated her time to helping others with facial disfigurements and burns as well as being a doting mother, an author and presenting on the small screen.

Penny Lancaster

Joining up: Penny Lancaster was inspired by her time on the show (Channel 4)

Lancaster, who is married to Rod Stewart, is best known for her modelling, presenting and, in recent years, being one of the Loose Women’s regular panellists.

After filming the show, Lancaster told the Daily Mail’s Weekend magazine that she wants to join the force after taking part in the short series .

Sandi Bogle

Gogglebox star: Sandi Bogle (Channel 4)

The Gogglebox star is getting up off the sofa and out in the field to experience life on the beat – a world away from watching television all day.

Marcus Brigstocke

Pictured: Marcus Brigstock (Channel 4)

The comedian is a fan-favourite and a regular on the entertainment circuit, having featured on QI, Have I Got News For You and Mock The Week as well as on reality shows including The Jump.

But this will be far from funny as Brigstocke gets to grips with what the streets have to throw at him.

Jamie Laing

Made In Cambridgeshire: Jamie Laing is swapping Chelsea for life on the beat (Channel 4)

Made In Chelsea star Laing is turning off the camera for his YouTube channel and getting in front of the camera to aid the police force.

When is it on?

Famous and Fighting Crime airs tonight at 9pm on Channel 4.
