Family 'worried sick' as Edinburgh hospital worker goes missing at end of night shift

Family of a woman who went missing after her night shift at an Edinburgh hospital have launched a frantic search.

Shanice Smith was last seen when leaving work at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary at around at 8am yesterday morning.

The 26-year-old had was seen driving off in her BMW 1 series hatchback with white, blacked out windows.

Her panic-stricken sister Alysha took to Facebook last night in a desperate bid to find her.

She wrote: "My sister has been missing since 8am today after leaving nightshift in Edinburgh to come home back to Hawick and hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

"We’re all worried sick.

"Shanice is driving a BMW 1 Series Hatchback, white with blacked out windows. Reg- YF64 GVJ."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police Scotland is conducting enquiries to trace a 26-year-old woman reported missing in Hawick.

"Shanice Smith was last seen in the Gilmerton area of Edinburgh around 8am on Thursday, August 1.

"If Shanice see's this appeal, we'd urge her to get in touch with a family member or police as soon as possible and let us know she is safe.

"Officers can be contacted via 101, quoting reference number 1309 of 1st August."
